Welcome to the Caidan Academy of Archers! The Academy of Archers is a Kingdom-wide group, dedicated to encouraging the growth of archery in Caid through increased communication, cooperation and teaching. The Academy supports the Minister of Archers and provides advice on target archery policies. Membership is open to all authorized target archers who reside within the borders of the Kingdom of Caid.

The Academy is dedicated to the following:
   • Promoting the Image and Spirit of Archery in Caid
   • Encouraging Competition
   • Supporting Caid's Territorial Archery Groups and Guilds
   • Providing a forum for discussion
   • Education and Training

The rules for archery in Caid (The Archers' Handbook) are available online. On the links list above and to the left, click on Officers, Marshal, then Publications. Scroll down to the Archers' Handbook. Authorizing as an archer in Caid requires familiarity with these rules. Any local Captain or Lieutenant of Archers, Range Marshal, or experienced archer can help you with questions. Archers who are members of the Order of the Chiron are especially experienced and skilled archers; they are an excellent resource to the community.

New archers may often be able to use loaner equipment at local practices to become familiar with archery without having to make a substantial investment in equipment. Check with your local area for practice locations and times, as well as availability of loaner gear. You do not have to be authorized to attend or participate in practices.

The Academy sponsors a track of archery classes at our Kingdom's College, the Collegium Caidis. Students (and teachers) are always welcome - contact the Regent for details. We have many local archery practices and events, as well as two Queen's Champion Tournaments and one Kingdom Open Tournament each year. The Academy holds formal meetings, generally during lunch, at the Queen's Champion Tournaments. Check the Kingdom Calendar for the next archery event near you.

We encourage healthy competition amongst our members as well as between Kingdoms. To that end, shooting the two standard rounds, the Royal Round and the Inter-Kingdom Archery Competition, allows us to reliably track our own individual growth as archers, as well as to compare with others. Our Kingdom ranking system depends on scores from Royal Rounds, and the Inter-Kingdom Competition depends on its own, longer rounds, which produce two Royal Round scores for each IKAC round. Junior Division Royal Rounds are used to track the ranking of archers under the age of 15 years, using the Junior ranking system, but these are not the same as adult ranks. Local Captains and Range Marshals in charge of practices and events report these scores to the Minister of Archers. Other rounds (various novelties, clouts, and other styles of target) present unique challenges and add to our enjoyment of our art.

Archery is often distant from sight at our events because of safety concerns, and sometimes, what isn't seen is forgotten. Because of this, it is important for archers to be visible as archers even when we are not on the range. The Academy badge above is for all members of the Academy to use as they will, in garb, adornment, and other forms of heraldic display.

Finally, remember, all of our Range Marshals and other Archery officers are volunteers. Without their service, our community could not exist; however, they serve because they, too, enjoy archery. Once you have authorized, please consider volunteering at the Range at a War or day event, or becoming a Range Marshal in Training. Many hands make light work!
